The Bilateral Agreement on Indigenous Affairs was signed by the State of Western Australia and the Commonwealth of Australia in July 2006. The Agreement establishes an agreed framework and priorities for intergovernmental cooperation and enhanced effort in Indigenous affairs.
The Agreement has six key outcome areas being:
- Law and Order and Safe Places for People.
- Skills, Jobs and Opportunities.
- Healthy and Strong People.
- Sustainable Environmental Health and Infrastructure.
- Land, Sea and Culture.
- Strong Leadership and Governance.
The Agreement contains a number of specific joint initiatives as well as establishing processes for further work on key issues such as community governance, responding to communities in crisis and future service delivery to remote communities.
