Sites files

Files

In DIA the location and extent of Aboriginal sites is stored in an ESRI ArcSDE feature class, and site information is recorded as attributes.

Digital information is provided in both spatial and textual form. Spatial information is available in a number of formats.

Please note: The information on this page is the same information as the information in the old Readme.pdf file that was downloadable via the previous download process. This page updates that readme.pdf file making it no longer necessary to download the readme.pdf file.

ArcSDE export file

ArcSDE export files are available. Export files are identified by the name of the file extension.

  • SITES.EXP

Shapefiles

Shapefiles are created by exporting from the ArcSDE feature class. The resulting shapefiles are:

  • SITES.DBF
  • SITES.SHP
  • SITES.SHX
  • SITES.PRJ

Note:

  • When downloading shape files it is necessary to download the sites.dbf, sites.shp, sites.shx and sites.prj files. Please remember to download all four files to ensure that the shapefile is complete.

MapInfo files

MapInfo MID and MIF files are created from the ArcSDE feature class. The resulting files are:

  • SITES.MID
  • SITES.MIF

Note:

  • When downloading MapInfo files you must download both the sites.mid, and sites.mif files.

Sites assessed as 'Stored' have not, at the time of assessment, sufficiently met the criteria under Section 5 of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 . These sites are not deleted from the Register of Aboriginal Sites, but are maintained for the possibility that new information may be presented about 'Stored' sites and can be presented for re-assessment. Attribute data is included for each site denoting its status as a "lodged", "Registered Site", "Insufficient Information" or "Stored" site.
